Sadly, we mark the passing of our former members.

JOHN C. "JACK" COLE        Passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at the age of 89.         Jack was born Sept. 30, 1919 in Caro, and was a proud, lifelong resident of Watrousville.    He served aboard the USS Oliver Hazzard Perry (DMS 17) and was wounded during the attack on                                                  Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.                                                                               Jack loved history, and was a former president of The Watrousville Historical Society.                                                                                                                                                                                   Marie G. Cole, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2004 at her home, surrounded by her family, at age 80. Marie was born September 25, 1923 in Reese, the daughter of the late Michael J. and Elsie (Gillis) Hogan. She graduated from Reese High School in 1941 and was a lifelong Tuscola County resident. She was married to John C.Cole on March 2, 1946 in Reese. Marie was                     a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro and a very active member of                        the Watrousville-Caro Area Historical Society.

MARGARET CATHERN WRIGHT     passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family, Friday November 10, 2006. Margaret was born October 4, 1918 in Fairgrove. She was a lifelong Tuscola County resident.

CECIL J. OSGERBY Passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the age of 87. He was born                                   in Reese on July 18, 1919. Cecil was a Caro High School graduate                    and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

Robert M. Hartranft Supported by his children’s presence and gentle care, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2005 at Genesys Medical Center, at the age of 87. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Guam. His loving and supportive wife, Eleanor, preceded Robert in death. He was a past president of The Watrousville - Caro Area Historical Society.

Howard Earl Sayers Passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005 at Rendon’s AFC Home, following a lingering illness, at the age of 87. During most of his life, Howard was a farmer in Indianfields Township, as well as being a diesel mechanic and truck driver. Howard was a member of the advisory board at the ISD Tech Center for the diesel mechanic classes.

Donald Wilbur Colling Passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005 at St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw, following a brief illness, at the age of 88. He was born Aug. 16, 1917 at home in Colling. In 1948, he came to work at the Tuscola County Advertiser. For the next 34 years, he helped produce 1,768 issues of the paper. Don was active in Caro politics for many, many years.

 Pauline May Leonard, 69, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, following a brief illness. She was born January 9, 1936, in Cass City, the daughter of the late Albert B. and Grace P. (Whittaker) Quick. Pauline graduated from Caro High School in 1953 and attended Cleary Business College in Ypsilanti. She was married to her high-school sweetheart, Don Leonard, on October 2, 1954, in Caro.

Clare S. Osgerby, of Caro, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1980 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ann Arbor following a brief illness. He was 65. He was born May 18, 1915 in Reese, graduated from Caro High School, and was a long-time resident of Tuscola County. He married the former Mary Alice Gibbs on Feb. 5, 1938 in Caro. He was the owner of Osgerby Insurance Agency which he established in 1938. He also was very active in civic affairs. He was the administrator of Caro Community School elections, a past president of the Exchange Club, a member of the Caro Rotary Club, an American Legion Baseball manager, and served as Indianfields Township Clerk for 22 years. A World War II veteran, he was a member of the Theron Atwood Post 7 of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 164 of Caro. He was an avid student of                 the Civil War, a member of the Watrousville Historical Society, and a member of                        the Caro United Methodist Church.
